The practice · est. 2015
A Bang Nak room for household money, opened in 2015.
The official registered business name is Ponder Quarry Financial Planning. The practice was established in 2015 in Tambon Bang Nak, where it still meets households.
Kanchana Wongsawat grew up keeping the stall book for her family’s dried seafood trade near the Narathiwat market. Relatives began asking her to sit with their own envelopes: rent on one scrap, a boat share on another, school costs in a folded note. In 2014 she completed a certificate in personal financial planning through Thammasat University’s continuing programme. The following year she registered the practice and took a room on the Bang Nak side of town.
The name remembers a habit more than a place. Before money left the stall, someone had to ponder the figures on paper. The quarry road was where the family stored crates between market days. The practice kept both words and left the crates behind.
What the work is
The practice prepares household budgets and cash-flow plans. A sitting produces a written sheet the household can use on payday. Insurance policies and investment products sit outside that sheet. Kanchana does not sell them, and the engagement does not include choosing them.
How a household is met
Sittings are unhurried and specific. The last few weeks are recounted before any amount is recommended. Both adults who handle cash are asked to be in the room, because a plan one person never heard tends to stay folded. Between meetings, the household may keep a short daily note. Categories stay few: food, rent, debt, and the rest.
The practice works in Thai or English. Many households switch between the two when a figure needs to be exact. The written sheet follows the language the household will actually read on a weekday morning.
What the practice holds onto
Dates matter more than slogans. A thin week is treated as a calendar problem first. Neighbours in Mueang Narathiwat are the people the room was opened for: mixed earnings, shared roofs, and months when festival travel and school costs arrive together. Files stay at the practice so a household can return six months later and compare the new month with the old sheet.
