Savings Goal Sitting
Ninety minutes on one named goal — a roof, a term's school costs, or the bus fare home — and the weekly amount that can be set aside without emptying the grocery week.
Who sits with you
Kanchana Wongsawat sits with the adults who will actually set the money aside.
Included
- A ninety-minute sitting
- A one-page goal sheet
- One printed copy
Outside this sitting
- Choosing a bank product or an investment
- Opening accounts
- A full month-by-month cash-flow plan
- A second goal in the same sitting
How the sitting proceeds
-
1
Name the goal and the date
The sitting starts with one purpose and the month it has to be ready. A vague wish to save more is narrowed until it has a cost and a season.
-
2
Test the amount against a real month
One ordinary month of income and the known short week are used to see whether the weekly amount leaves enough for food and rent.
-
3
Write the pause rule
The sheet says what event pauses the goal, so a thin week does not become a reason to abandon it or to raid it without a decision.
Before you come
- A rough cost for the goal
- The month it needs to be ready
- A sense of the household's usual income and the week that tends to run short
Limits of the fee
- One goal per sitting. A second goal needs another hour or belongs in the annual review.
- The amount is only useful if the person who handles the cash is in the room.
